they have roots growing out over the top of the pot, they have flowered at least 3 times each since I had them about a year ago (which I wasn't expecting) They're in a kind of woody substance but I don't think, any soil.
Should I try and put them in a bigger pot and cover up the new roots, and if so what soil/wood should I use.
I tend to forget to water them but try and spray them about once a week, at the moment they are living on the kitchen window sill.
Any help will be appreciated.
Repotting orchids, I have 2 shop bought orchids, kind you get in the supermarket, I need to know how to repot?
I saw a Georgia Public TV program on Saturday about repotting orchids. Hopefully, this will tell you everything you need to know. They made their on potting mix but I bought mine at Lowe's-it's for orchids. It was a very informative program. Yes. The dead flowers on the plant just use up energy, it is best to pick them off when they start to fade. Dead leaves can cause mold and harbor diseases it is best also to remove these as soon as they fade.

Why are my blue hydrangea flowers turning green?
i planted my hydrangea in a pot and the flowers were bright blue when i started by over the past month or so they've turned green. i've given it miracle grow but nothing seems to help. it gets mostly morning and early afternoon sun. we've had a lot of rain, so the soil has been pretty wet. any suggestions??????

I planted thyme, basil, oregano, tomato, peppers, spearmint, parsley, fennel in the food garden. In the window boxes I planted, geraniums, petunia, vinca, and some hens and chicks. In the hanging baskets I planted, petunia, geranium, spider plant, sedum, ivy and impatients. In the beds, I planted freesia, columbine, upright fushia, hydrangea, boston fern, rose of sharon, oleander, dwarf peter pans, jasmine, begonia, peony, aloe and a jade plant. I probably won't stop there, though, everytime I go to the home improvement store I come home with at least 5-10 more plants.

A bamboo I dug up on the side of a road, a miniature banana tree, poinsetia left over from Christmas, I even grow herbs and cherry tomatos and have a grape vine started. Don't know how I'm gonna handle that when it gets big!

i live in minnesota in the twin cities and im putting hanging pots outside in my front yard the flower garden in my front yard is totaly exposed to the sun. my garden is so plain and i want pretty and colorful flowers that can be exposed to the sun.

African daisies, gazanias, vincas, plumbago, jasmine, kalanchoe, alyssum, and petunias come to mind. It depends on if your yard gets morning or afternoon sun. The flowers I named would be OK w/either. If you get morning sun, you can add impatiens, violas, pansies, etc. If you get afternoon sun, you can add mini roses depending on how much heat and humidity you get. Happy gardening! :)

Reply:My favorite is 'Bright Lights' cosmos. They are bred for hot and dry weather. But you still need to water them. Mix moisture crystals into your potting soil so that you will not have to water so often. Do not fertilize. Easy to grow from seed. Wait until your night temps are 68 to 70 degrees to plant seeds. You can also start them in your house or buy growing plants from a nursery. Be sure to 'deadhead'. This will give you constant blooms. Let the plants go to seed in August. When the flowers are completely dry, save the seed heads and plant next summer. :o)

OK you want some serious advice. Start a diary, noting day,date, time, place of every of every incident. Do you have a video camera. Best evidence is visual. Then take it all to your local authority. Then catalogue your customer service received. If that doesn't solve it, just keep talking to them. Your local authority has a duty of care you are entitled to receive, after all that's why you help to pay their salaries.

Reply:Contact the noise abatement team at the local council , it doesn't matter if the shop was there before you moved there or not , if there is a problem with noise then they will investigate it regardless , even if he has been there for say 50 years and you only moved in last week . report it first chance you get , the abatement team are very good and will monitor the situation very closely and will not reveal to the shop owner who reported them . so it`s best if you do not approach them yourself as then they will know that is most probably you who has reported them , try get a few other people to report the noise as well if you can ........ good luck .

I found a couple of neglected (but thriving) orchids in my dads back yard. I want to put them on my verandah, but they look a bit ugly as they have grown seriosly too big for the pots they are in. Both of them have flower buds which are unopened. I know its not the best time, but do you think if I chopped and replanted a section of them (so they fit in pot better) would it stop the flowers from coming out or kill them?

How brave is this bird? (Animal behavior question)?
We have a robin, who built her nest in a hanging flower pot next to a big plate glass window. It's in plain site of our exercise area, which faces out onto the deck. After she had laid her eggs, she discovered we also have two very curious kittens, who like to sit at the window and try to jump up towards the pot. The robin seems to have a good attitude though. When she gets disgusted with us, she just turns her back on us. The 2 chicks are pretty big now and we'll keep the cats inside until they have fletched and flown off.

2 questions about my new reddish purple flowering plant?

I have a ten year old containerized orange tree (variety unknown) that won't flower. Tips?????
In winter when I bring it indoors it loses all of its leaves, but survives and when I put it outdoors in the summer it bursts into leaf again. This summer it's foliage is excellent. But it just refuses to flower! It is 2m in height and it's trunk is approx. 5cm dia. 10L pot.

It may need fertilizer. Someone said it may need to be repotted. If you can, check the roots to see if the plant is pot bound. Also check out the holes in the bottom of the pot to see if roots are coming out of the holes. If you see roots, repot the plant.
If that isn't it, I would fertilize it. Citrus plants need fertilizer (NPK) to produce flowers and to set fruit. If it lacks fertilizer, it will not carry out those functions and may just continue to produce vegetatively.

It may need fertilizer. Someone said it may need to be repotted. If you can, check the roots to see if the plant is pot bound. Also check out the holes in the bottom of the pot to see if roots are coming out of the holes. If you see roots, repot the plant.

Need some good ideas for a patio fence.?
I have bought 7 black trellises to put around the edge of my patio garden. They stand about 6 foot tall and about 2 1/2 feet wide. The tops has openings that look like a window to which you can hang a large basket of flowers (which I have). The trellis are also spaced out in which I have BIG pots of flowers on the ground between them. My question is I need something to connect the trellis to make them look right. The trellis look like black banding that have braided through, kind of what you would do to a pie top, when you lay the crust under and over each other and the spaces are left in between. Hopefully you can understand what I am trying to do, but need some great ideas. Also this is a container garden, and the cheaper the better for I have spent alot of money and my budget is shot!!!! Go to your local hardware store like Lowe's or Home Depot and check out the wooden lattice. The ones I got were about three feet by six feet and cost around $16.00 each, but that was years ago. Still, this is going to be your cheapest alternative.
After buying the proper amount, you'll have to finish the tops and bottoms. You can use lathing strips for this, which are cheap. If you want to be fancier, use molding. Whatever you use, get enough to do both sides of the lattice, so it's sturdier.
The next step is to prime all the wood on all the surfaces with a good primer. Make sure you prime the wood even on the parts that won't show. Paint all the wood whatever color you want.
To attach the wooden "frame", you'll need some wood glue and "c" clamps. Spread the glue on the frame, then attach to the lattice. Clamp and let dry. Use brads or staples to attach. Paint, then coat with verathane. Really well. You can attach these to your planters with wire. Note: You can also buy lattice in vinyl, but it's more expensive.
Another option? Make some screens. You'll need to build frames. Prime and prep the wood. Using an electric staple gun and rust-proof staples, fasten an outdoor fabric to one side of the frame. Set other frame on top and use staples or brads to fasten. Screens can be attached together with hinges. Make sure they won't rust!

Orchids are by far the most beautiful of flowering houseplants, but they are pretty high maintenance. If you get one of these it's a good idea to do your research first about how to properly care for one.

In fact they can go with out water for months together .
Now which one you have in mind?
Your pot plant is certainly not a hydrophyte. It would have been dead by this time .
