they have roots growing out over the top of the pot, they have flowered at least 3 times each since I had them about a year ago (which I wasn't expecting) They're in a kind of woody substance but I don't think, any soil.
Should I try and put them in a bigger pot and cover up the new roots, and if so what soil/wood should I use.
I tend to forget to water them but try and spray them about once a week, at the moment they are living on the kitchen window sill.
Any help will be appreciated.
Repotting orchids, I have 2 shop bought orchids, kind you get in the supermarket, I need to know how to repot?
I saw a Georgia Public TV program on Saturday about repotting orchids. Hopefully, this will tell you everything you need to know. They made their on potting mix but I bought mine at Lowe's-it's for orchids. It was a very informative program. Go on the Georgia Public Broadcasting site, click on Gardening in Georgia and type in orchids in the search box. That will get you to the episode that I saw. Good luck, I hope this will help.

Should I remove dead flowers and leaves from the pot?
I mean after I cut them. Should I remove them from the pot?
Should I remove dead flowers and leaves from the pot?
Yes. The dead flowers on the plant just use up energy, it is best to pick them off when they start to fade. Dead leaves can cause mold and harbor diseases it is best also to remove these as soon as they fade.

Why are my blue hydrangea flowers turning green?
i planted my hydrangea in a pot and the flowers were bright blue when i started by over the past month or so they've turned green. i've given it miracle grow but nothing seems to help. it gets mostly morning and early afternoon sun. we've had a lot of rain, so the soil has been pretty wet. any suggestions??????
Why are my blue hydrangea flowers turning green?
The flower colors are dependant on the pH level of the soil. More blue color is an acidic soil (add tomato waste from your kitchen to help) or more pink color is an alkaline soil (I think its egg shells from the kitchen).
-PJ
From the first website listed:
Color Me Hydrangea:
They say a leopard can't change his spots. But, a Hydrangea can change it's colors. Some varieties will change flower colors, depending upon the soil condition.
The amount of the micro-nutrient aluminum available for uptake by the plant results in the color changes. The pH level influences the ability of the plant to intake and use this micro-nutrient. In acidic soils high in aluminum, the flowers are blue. The higher the acidity(and aluminum), the bluer the flower. Neutral soils with less aluminum are white. Alkaline soils result in pink blooms.
To change flower colors:
*Add lime of the soil to reduce acidity
*Add Aluminum sulfate to increase acidity.
No Blooms? The most common cause is winter damage. A frost will kill the buds. Too much shade and poor soil conditions can also result in no blooms.
Reply:To turn your hydrangeas back to blue, you'll need to add Aluminum Sulfate to the soil. You can find it at your local garden center, just read the directions on the back of the package.

What are some pretty flowers that can be exposed to the sun?
i live in minnesota in the twin cities and im putting hanging pots outside in my front yard the flower garden in my front yard is totaly exposed to the sun. my garden is so plain and i want pretty and colorful flowers that can be exposed to the sun.
thanks
What are some pretty flowers that can be exposed to the sun?
African daisies, gazanias, vincas, plumbago, jasmine, kalanchoe, alyssum, and petunias come to mind. It depends on if your yard gets morning or afternoon sun. The flowers I named would be OK w/either. If you get morning sun, you can add impatiens, violas, pansies, etc. If you get afternoon sun, you can add mini roses depending on how much heat and humidity you get. Happy gardening! :)
Reply:Shasta daisies, or pink %26amp; blue marguerite daisies .... You can plant mums now (if you can find them) and they'll bloom about July, and you can cut them back and they'll bloom again in the fall ...... Portulaca is bright and colorful, and LOVES the heat and sun ..... Petunias are good, but get the "wave" variety ....... verbena and lantana are also good
Reply:My favorite is 'Bright Lights' cosmos. They are bred for hot and dry weather. But you still need to water them. Mix moisture crystals into your potting soil so that you will not have to water so often. Do not fertilize. Easy to grow from seed. Wait until your night temps are 68 to 70 degrees to plant seeds. You can also start them in your house or buy growing plants from a nursery. Be sure to 'deadhead'. This will give you constant blooms. Let the plants go to seed in August. When the flowers are completely dry, save the seed heads and plant next summer. :o)

I live beside a noisy snack bar. Any advice as to talk to the owners?
Last night I had 2 boys "moon" at me (I like to keep my sitting room curtains open) and had 2 flower pots broken and 1 stolen. Please dont say "close your curtains".... why should I?!
I live beside a noisy snack bar. Any advice as to talk to the owners?
OK you want some serious advice. Start a diary, noting day, date, time, place of every of every incident. Do you have a video camera. Best evidence is visual. Then take it all to your local authority. Then catalogue your customer service received. If that doesn't solve it, just keep talking to them. Your local authority has a duty of care you are entitled to receive, after all that's why you help to pay their salaries.
Reply:COMPLAIN TO THE COUNCIL !!!!!!!!!!
Reply:with your attitude, don't even bother to talk to the owner, he's just doing bussiness, he can' t control his customers. why should he bother with your wishes, bussiness is good
Reply:Depends if the snack bar was there before you were or if it was opened after you moved in.
If it's the first option, then you really have no comeback as to what goes on there - you moved in knowing it was there.
If it's the second option, then you have the right to go an speak politely to the proprietors about your concerns. They may say, it's not their problem. If so, contact the police about anti-social behaviour.

When can I put my plants out side in the ground in Maine?
I have pumpkins, peas, sweet peas and sun flowers in those little pots you plant pot and all and they are growing out of control! The sun flowers sprouded in less than 8 hours! I'm not kidding! They are out growing my sun porch. When can I plant these things in the ground? And don't say after last frost! Everyone knows that. Give me a time frame PLEASE!!!
When can I put my plants out side in the ground in Maine?
Get your peas and sweet peas out NOW. They don't like the full sun in the middle of summer.
Sun flowers are tolerant of heat, and should go out once the last frost date is past.
Pumpkins need a long growing season. Try planting a couple of them out a couple of weeks before the last frost date, but cover them with a plastic gallon milk bottle with the bottom cut out and the lid off. This acts as a mini-greenhouse. If they don't make it, plant a couple more 2 weeks later.
Reply:memorial day weekend.you can plant them in your garden.

Does anyone know anything about re-potting orchids?
I found a couple of neglected (but thriving) orchids in my dads back yard. I want to put them on my verandah, but they look a bit ugly as they have grown seriosly too big for the pots they are in. Both of them have flower buds which are unopened. I know its not the best time, but do you think if I chopped and replanted a section of them (so they fit in pot better) would it stop the flowers from coming out or kill them?
Does anyone know anything about re-potting orchids?
Now is not the best time to repot orchids, wait until the flowers dry out, then remove the orchids from the soil, separate them and cut out most of the roots leaving only about half a finger and repot them on different pots in orchid soil with the buds showing above the soil, they very lightly will not flower the first year.

How brave is this bird? (Animal behavior question)?
We have a robin, who built her nest in a hanging flower pot next to a big plate glass window. It's in plain site of our exercise area, which faces out onto the deck. After she had laid her eggs, she discovered we also have two very curious kittens, who like to sit at the window and try to jump up towards the pot. The robin seems to have a good attitude though. When she gets disgusted with us, she just turns her back on us. The 2 chicks are pretty big now and we'll keep the cats inside until they have fletched and flown off.
How brave is this bird? (Animal behavior question)?
kinda strange since animal instinct tells it to evade whatever's pouncing at it. but either this bird's brave or knows there's a barrier between itself %26amp; its threat. or maybe your kittens don't look threatening(?). possibilities...
Reply:One thing I can think of. Most likely the bird can not see what is happening inside the house behind the glass window. Usually there is a reflection of itself in the glass, esp. when the sun is bright outside and it's dark inside. Try to go outside during the day to see if you could look inside and see your cats!

I have a ten year old containerized orange tree (variety unknown) that won't flower. Tips?????
In winter when I bring it indoors it loses all of its leaves, but survives and when I put it outdoors in the summer it bursts into leaf again. This summer it's foliage is excellent. But it just refuses to flower! It is 2m in height and it's trunk is approx. 5cm dia. 10L pot.
I have a ten year old containerized orange tree (variety unknown) that won't flower. Tips?????
It may need fertilizer. Someone said it may need to be repotted. If you can, check the roots to see if the plant is pot bound. Also check out the holes in the bottom of the pot to see if roots are coming out of the holes. If you see roots, repot the plant.
If that isn't it, I would fertilize it. Citrus plants need fertilizer (NPK) to produce flowers and to set fruit. If it lacks fertilizer, it will not carry out those functions and may just continue to produce vegetatively.
Hope this helps!

Reply:I have a lemon tree and it calls for acidic fertilizer. It may be just what your plant needs :)
Reply:Put it in the ground and wait another 15 yrs. and you may get tons of fruit.
Reply:This is a long time in the same pot and it might be root bound. Repot it to a larger pot and fertilize it. If you don't want a larger pot, wait until the end of the season and take it out of the pot and trim back some of the roots and repot it using some fresh potting soil.
Reply:I would check with a knowledgeable person at your cooperative extension service, or find a good book on the subject. Possibly at your local nursery or at Amazon.com; the soil may need to be changed, as flowering requires alot of nutrients from the tree in order for it to fruit. This way you would know exactly what to do %26amp; when to do it! I'm not so sure you will find an expert on the subject here, but at least you got me thinking! sorry I can't be a whole lot of help this time, dear.
Reply:Possibly it needs to be repotted into a larger pot. If the roots are too crowded, it won't flower.
Reply:Depending on what zone you live in you could leave it outdoors for the winter if it's not too cold. Change the soil, place it in a slightly larger container, don't disturb the root ball just add soil around the edges and top and bottom of the root ball. I would use a citrus fertalizer in early spring, not in the middle of the summer. They don't like very much water so be sure you are not over watering it.
Reply:maybe water it

Any information on these flowers?
I recently bought 2 potted flowering gerberas, %26amp; wonder if you can tell me, are they perennial %26amp; if so how long they flower %26amp; how to care for them properly.
Any information on these flowers?
Gerbera are perennial in zones 7 and up, but are generally annuals everywhere else. They will flower until frost and you can collect seeds for planting in a sunny window, six weeks before your last expected frost, and replant outdoors.
When you post gardening questions, it is good to tell us your zone -- if you do not know this you can just tell us the state and we can give you a more accurate idea.

Need some good ideas for a patio fence.?
I have bought 7 black trellises to put around the edge of my patio garden. They stand about 6 foot tall and about 2 1/2 feet wide. The tops has openings that look like a window to which you can hang a large basket of flowers (which I have). The trellis are also spaced out in which I have BIG pots of flowers on the ground between them. My question is I need something to connect the trellis to make them look right. The trellis look like black banding that have braided through, kind of what you would do to a pie top, when you lay the crust under and over each other and the spaces are left in between. Hopefully you can understand what I am trying to do, but need some great ideas. Also this is a container garden, and the cheaper the better for I have spent alot of money and my budget is shot!!!! Thanks Patty

This sounds really pretty! And now, since your budget is shot, it's time to get creative.
Go to your local hardware store like Lowe's or Home Depot and check out the wooden lattice. The ones I got were about three feet by six feet and cost around $16.00 each, but that was years ago. Still, this is going to be your cheapest alternative.
After buying the proper amount, you'll have to finish the tops and bottoms. You can use lathing strips for this, which are cheap. If you want to be fancier, use molding. Whatever you use, get enough to do both sides of the lattice, so it's sturdier.
The next step is to prime all the wood on all the surfaces with a good primer. Make sure you prime the wood even on the parts that won't show. Paint all the wood whatever color you want.
To attach the wooden "frame", you'll need some wood glue and "c" clamps. Spread the glue on the frame, then attach to the lattice. Clamp and let dry. Use brads or staples to attach. Paint, then coat with verathane. Really well. You can attach these to your planters with wire. Note: You can also buy lattice in vinyl, but it's more expensive.
Another option? Make some screens. You'll need to build frames. Prime and prep the wood. Using an electric staple gun and rust-proof staples, fasten an outdoor fabric to one side of the frame. Set other frame on top and use staples or brads to fasten. Screens can be attached together with hinges. Make sure they won't rust!
It's hard to describe this without pics! I hope this is clear. Please feel free to e-mail me with questions.

I want to put a potted plant (preferably with flowers) in my bedroom that gets medium light??
what plants grow well in a room that doesn't get very bright?
I want to put a potted plant (preferably with flowers) in my bedroom that gets medium light??
Peace Lilies are very easy to grow, don't require a lot of light, and produce nice white flowers.
If you want more color, both Begonias and African Violets are fairly low maintenance as well. Both like bright indirect light.
Orchids are by far the most beautiful of flowering houseplants, but they are pretty high maintenance. If you get one of these it's a good idea to do your research first about how to properly care for one.
Hope this helps!

How long can plants last without water?
say i have a pot of normal flower plant, how long will it last if i dont give it any water until it dies?
How long can plants last without water?
Based on water requirement ; plants are grouped in to three major groups, viz. Hydrophytes, Mesophytes and Xerophytes.
1) Hydrophytes - These plants are water lovers . They grow and survive only when water is in plenty.
They are either fully submerged in water like Elodea , Hydrilla and Vallisneria and sword plants ( These are always planted in aquariums to make fish happy and for decoration)
Such plants will begin to die if taken out of water ( Just like fish!).
Some float on the water surface( Lotus) .These also cannot do with out water.
2) Mesophytes - Most of the crop plants come in this category . The water requirement varies from crop to crop; but still they require regular supply of water. and begin to wilt once the water deficiency threshold is crossed.
3) Xerophytes- ( Cacti and other Succulents)These are the plants of arid zones or deserts and have good capacity to withstand water deficiency.
In fact they can go with out water for months together .
Now which one you have in mind?
Your pot plant is certainly not a hydrophyte. It would have been dead by this time .
If it is a cactus ( Xerophyte ) it can survive for at least a month.
If it is a common garden plant then can not pull on for more than a week. These are general observations,
Reply:Depends on three parameters. One type of the plant itself, number two the season in which this experiment is being performed and lastly just before starting this experiment how much shower of water has been given to the plant. In general, you can just expect to get your plant waiting for you if you return within a period of seven days in Summer.

What is the best type of highly scented jasmine to grow in pot in garden?
would like to grow highly scented long flowering jasmine in a pot in garden is that possible
What is the best type of highly scented jasmine to grow in pot in garden?
trachelospermum jasminoides - the best. Why? it's highly scented AND it's evergreen, turns red in the winter and if fed and watered does't mind being in a pot one bit
Reply:i really like confederate jasmine it has a nice strong scent
Reply:Star Jasmine. Very hardy, very fragrant. I have had it in a patio pot for five years and it just keeps on growing.
Reply:Jasmine Officionalis, but it needs protecting from frost. Put a layer of bubble wrap around the inside of the pot before you put in the compost. And it doesn't like the wind either.
Jasmine needs a lot of feeding to keep it flowering year after year. Its also a climbing plant so needs support.

Why are my plants dying?
I recently made a garden and put some flowers (from a pot) in the garden. Before the flowers were facing upward and looked healthy (this was yesterday). Now the flowers are facing down, to the ground and look like they're about to die. Why are my flowers looking like they are about to die? What can I do to help them?
Why are my plants dying?
They could also be in transplant shock. It is always a good idea to use some Miracle Grow when transplanting. When you dig your hole to put the plant in, put the plant in the hole and then pour the diluted Miracle Grow directly around the root ball, then cover the roots and hole and tamp down to make sure it is solidly packed, and I have always given my plants an extra watering right after planting. They should perk back up.
Reply:well.. have they been watered?
Are they a shade-loving plant that you may have planted in full sun? ... like impatiens???
Some plants undergo transplant shock which could do that.
Hard telling, not knowing the type of plant and where they're planted.
Reply:Hmm...from my experience in transplanting from a pot to the earth, you have to make sure you have the plant pressed firmly into the ground tight so that there is no air bubbles down there. Once I had a plant droop a little after planting it. All I did was press downward hard around the base, and watered it, and it did fine after that. Also. you may look into B vitamins. Most places carry them. (ie Home Depot or Lowe's)
Hope this helps, and good luck.
Reply:Did you plant them deep enough? Did you add some fertilizer to the soil? Did you water them well after planting them? Did you pour some Miracle Gro around your plants once they were all in the ground?
Reply:They are probably in shock usually pots come from green houses. The sun may be to hot for them. Make sure you give them plenty of water. Good Luck.
Reply:Give them a good watering and fertilizer.
Reply:Don't panic, they may be suffering a transplant shock. They will come up nicely in a few days, but be sure to:
- Water them...don't soak them though, or this will hurt them even more.
- Make sure they receive the same amount of sunlight and shadow as they were before being in the soil. Obviously that was just perfect for them.
- Don't apply any type of fertilizer just yet. They are shocked by only being in a different environment. Applying chemicals would not help at all. Wait a few weeks while they get used to their new home.
Good Luck! I'm sure they'll return to their pretty state in no time.

Can i have some gardening tips particularly about potting flowers?
Start by carefully picking a container. Clay pots dry out quicker then plastic ones. Make sure whatever you pick has drainage holes in the bottom. With plastic containers you can drill a few small holes if it doesn't already have them. I usually put a few small rocks in the bottom of the container to help improve drainage. Then fill the container with a good potting mix to a couple inches below the rim. I usually use a 'moisture control' potting mix. Put your plants in and water. For the plants I have outside, I use mulch on top of the soil so they don't dry out as fast. My outdoor containers need to be watered way more then my houseplants do. As far as plants themselves, each has their own requirements as far as water and sun goes. I don't fertilize as much as some people, but you do have to feed the plants living in containers at least occasionally because they will deplete the nutrients from the soil eventually. I hope this helps you get a start!
Can i have some gardening tips particularly about potting flowers?
Here's what I do.
Get all your stuff together.
When you start with your pots, place a coffee filter over the holes in the bottom, or as many as you might need for larger pots, some of them will need 4-5 coffee filters to cover the holes.
Doing this will keep your dirt in the pot, so there's not such a mess when you move them or water them. ;)
Place some small rocks or pebbles in the bottom of the pot on top of the coffee filters.
This will give room for any water at the bottom without worrying to much that the plant will be damaged by to much water.
Once you have the pebbles in place, add your soil.
With soil, I usually add some rich black field dirt.
Also this might sound yucky, but if you add manure such as from cows or chickens the plants will thrive.
It is best to make a liquid mixture with the manure.
Take an old pantyhose, fill one leg with manure and place it in a 5 gallon bucket with some water.
Dip the manure in and out of the bucket, or just leave for a while.
Once the manure and water have mixed well, they can be used for fertilizer.
Or, if you don't want to deal with nasty water, get dried manure and mix with your soil. It's nasty but not as nasty as using wet manure and it doesn't smell as strongly as wet manure.
sometimes, I also mix a little sand and other bought soils into the mix, if i can afford to do so.
Place soil about 3/4 of the way full in the pot.
Add your plant and then continue to cover your plant roots until you reach the point of having the plant stand alone in the pot.
TaDa!
You've potted a plant, now place it in the right lighting setting for that plant and water.
Don't forget to talk to them cause they love you too!

Can you help me with an Aloe Vera plant problem?
I planted some aloe vera plants a week ago and all of them are now brown. i watered them when i first planted to help the roots take growth. They are in the full sun and some were put into the ground (flower bed) and some into pots. they are all brown. I pulled a couple out of the pots today and the roots look good. any help?
Can you help me with an Aloe Vera plant problem?
It sounds like sunburn. Many aloe plants sold today are grown in lightly shaded greenhouses. When planted outside in full sun, they can sunburn just like people. The plants will recover if you give them time. Keep the plants moist, but not damp. Eventually they will require very little water, but keep them well watered for a year to get them established. Also, you could improvise a small shade structure around the plants to help them acclimate.
Reply:Don't water them so much. They need very little. Start them all in a pot, inside the house with only a little sunlight until they get strong enough to take more light.
Reply:They grow wild in Hawaii. Aloe doesn't have a great root system. They may be in shock. Don't over water them. They are a form of succulent/cacti. Treat them as such and if you are still getting nowhere, consult a growers guide. My Grandmother had a sickly looking one but it lived without any care at all for 2 years until someone "took Care" of it. LOL
Reply:They can sunburn. Seriously. They grow from the tropics to the Himalayas, from full shade to desert sun, you lucked out and put them in a sunny location different from the nursery they were grown in. I kid you not, 20 yrs. ago I worked in a nursery and the new "grower" removed the shade screen and cooked the entire crop. I t can happen.
Reply:Well for one if you pulled them out and planter they came in and the roots were bare you could have put the plants in shock
Anytime you bare root transplant anything this late will usually die.
I would suggest not overwatering them and see if they come back.
It may take some time, but if they do not the next set you get you need to see what type of soil would be best for the plant.
Some plants take highly acidic dirt and most dont.
A good plant food mixed in with the potting soil will help as well.
Reply:i just planted some a couple of months ago. they, too, have turned brown. they are still alive so i think it must be the heat. been 90-100 for several weeks with little rain. until they lay over the side of the pot i will assume they are ok. i did pull mine back in the shade but it is still outside. m
Reply:Aloe is kin to cactus and does not like a lot of water. This could be the problem
Reply:Care of Aloe Vera Plants:
There are over 250 species of Aloes in the world, mostly native to Africa. They range in size from little one inch miniatures to massive plant colonies consisting of hundreds of 2 foot diameter plants. Although most Aloes have some medicinal or commercial value, the most commonly known is the Aloe barbadensis... better known as Aloe vera.
All Aloes are semitropical succulent plants, and may only be grown outdoors in areas where there is no chance of freezing (USDA zones 10-11) . However, they make excellent house plants when they are given sufficient light. Potted Aloes benefit from spending the summer outdoors. Older specimens may even bloom, producing a tall stock covered with bright colored coral flowers. Aloe flower nectar is a favorite of hummingbirds!
Because Aloe plants consist of 95% water, they are extremely frost tender. If they are grown outdoors in warm climates, they should be planted in full sun, or light shade. The soil should be moderately fertile, and fast draining. Established plants will survive a drought quite well, but for the benefit of the plant, water should be provided.
Because of their popularity, Aloe vera plants are available at almost every garden shop or nursery. Unless you live in area with a very mild climate, it's best to leave your Aloe plant in the pot and place it near a window that gets a lot of sun. You can move the pot outdoors during the summer months.
Aloe vera is a succulent, and as such, stores a large quantity of water within its leaves and root system. During the winter months, the plant will become somewhat dormant, and utilize very little moisture. During this period watering should be minimal. Allow the soil to become completely dry before giving the plant a cup or two of water. During the summer months, the soil should be completely soaked, but then be allowed to dry again before re-watering.
Aloes have a shallow, spreading root system, so when it is time to repot choose a wide planter, rather than a deep one. Use a planter with a drainage hole, or provide a 1-2 inch layer of gravel in the bottom of the pot to ensure adequate drainage. Use a good commercial potting mix with extra perlite, granite grit, or coarse sand added. You may also use a packaged 'cacti mix' soil. Fertilize yearly, in the spring with a dilute (half strength), bloom type fertilizer (10-40-10).
Aloes are propagated by removing the offsets which are produced around the base of mature plants, when they are a couple inches tall (or larger). They may also be grown from seed.
As to the claims of the medicinal properties of the Aloe plant, I can only speak from my personal experience. I have kept an Aloe plant around for years, primarily for burns. In case of burns, an immediate application of fresh gel has relieved much of the pain, and prevented blistering, many times. I also found it to be quite effective to relieve itching from stings, bites and various 'stinging' plants, such as poison ivy. It is also good for the same problems, when they are encountered by your pets.
When you need to use it medicinally, just remove a lower leaf from the plant, slice it open, and apply the gel on the affected area.
Keep in sandy soil that is well drained. Potted plants need filtered sun or full shade.

Where have all the flower children/hippies gone?
We have really betrayed our ideals. Instead of improving the world, we have made a holy mess. We have changed flowers for guns, pot for coke/horse, good rock music for rap sh*t, WOW????for OUCH!!!!!!! What a cop-out! Our generation has changed the world, but not for the better!

Where are they? They are in office (Hilary Clinton) ... or standing in line at the pharmacy trying to get their prescription of pain killers/sex enhancers refilled; since pot can no longer be consumed in old age, seems these prescription drugs satisfy.
I don't really hate the Hippies ... I just see that generation really scared of war and communists ... which ironically, is what they've become. I guess you become what you fear so many times so it's really not their fault only societies fears overwhelming a generation into paralization and dysfunction.
OK, the hippy children were super-spoiled, and now their grandchildren are super-duper-uper-spoiled. However, a few from these generations are waking up, and hopefully, society can get into peace with-out the drugs, love (sex), and finding responsiblities!!!
It would be a lot easier if the 'Hippies' stopped calling themselves 'Hippy' and started to lead by example...since they are now the people running the government, this would be a huge step!!!

Best place to hide your house key outside? Innovative Ideas, please!?
Yes, I know safety officials say that you should never hide a house key outside, but... Do you have any ideas other than under the doormat, flower pot, etc? I also have a garage with lots of storage. Any innovative ideas for containers to keep the key in, other than magnetic key holders, fake rocks, etc?
Best place to hide your house key outside? Innovative Ideas, please!?
HANG IT ON YOUR DOG'S COLLAR! THE BEST PLACE!
Reply:stick it in a light fixture or tape it or stick it with silly puddy to the bottom of the door
Reply:I hide mine in my neighbors yard and hers in mine. So if someone finds it, it won't fit the lock to the house.
Reply:Go to a joke store and buy some fake crap. Put it under that!
Reply:I have a brick edging around the flower bed next to my front door. One of the bricks is fake with a little hidden compartment for the key. The brick looks so real that it blends in with the rest of the bricks and no one is the wiser.
Reply:Visit your local Garden Centre, some of them sell products just for this purpose, Fake Rocks with slide holes in the bottom, even garden statues with slides underneath that you can hide your key in. I have one in that looks like a large snail, the key hides in the bottom.

Reply:1.buy a magnetic key holder box, and place it under the metal box that holds your Electric Meter- 2. Pin it to a Tree 3. drill a tiny screw hole in a downspout, hold it there with a tiny screw thumb tight. out of site of course. 4. If you have a curb Water box, place it in there under something not in view.
Reply:beleive it or not your taking a chance ,if you have a druggie neigbor they watch your every move then don`t care and rob you blind,, in other words make sure you don`t let anyone see you put the object down.
Reply:extra key in the car's glove box works for me or in a bird feeder if you have a habit of getting locked out it wont draw a lot attention especially if you maintain it daily. but if you are having company that will need frequent use of key, then i sugest that you make a copy and give it to the person, that way no one else will see your hiding spot and enter your home. breaking and entering is almost legal, if the person has the key, it is only entering.
Reply:if you have a carpet, place it in the corner of it .take a dore out ,hide in front .or you can tape it.
Reply:You could put the key in the soil of a potted plant (under a potted plant is too obvious). I would bury it down a few inches. It would be a good idea to bring the plant in the house while you do this so nobody else sees what you're doing. This would be a pain if you plan on getting to that key often, but if it's just for those times you lock yourself out it should do the trick.

How do you know when to repot a plant?
How can you tell when a flower has "outgrown" its pot and needs to be put in a larger one. Also, how exactly do you do it?
How do you know when to repot a plant?
If you look in the drain holes and can see several roots, it' time to change. Take the plant out of the old pot carefully...if there are roots making it difficult, don't rip them out, but be gentle. When the plant is out, squeeze the dirt/roots, kinda like kneading them, to loosen things up, place in new pot and cover with dirt. This is stressful for plants, so make sure the root bulb gets alot of water the first time. Do not put the new dirt any higher then where the bottom leafs stick out of the main stem.
Reply:I recently repotted a Peace Lily...I used store bought soil...the plant just looked to big for the pot I had it in.The roots were wrapping around each other so it's a good thing I did.Massage the roots to loosen them up before you put them in their "new home".My cousin helped me do mine.I wish I had a greener thumb...lol?
Reply:When the roots start to grow out the bottom is a good time to repot. Get a pot one or two sizes bigger than the previous one if you want the plant to grow larger. Or get two pots one size smaller if you are going to divide the plant in half to make two smaller ones. Be sure to use high quality sterile potting soil so you don't get weeds. And water the plant regulary after repotting (but not over watering or it will fail).
Reply:NOT THAT EASY TO ANSWER. MANY PLANTS 'LIKE' TO BE CROWDED IN POT, SOME DONT. JUST BECAUSE YOU SEE ROOTS COMING OUT BOTTOM 'DOES NOT' INDICATE IT NEEDS TO BE POTTED. IE- SPIDERPLANTS WILL NOT PRODUCE SUFFICIENT OFF SHOOTS 'BABIES' UNLESS CROWDED IN POT, EASTER CACTUS WILL PRODUCE ONLY IN CROWDED POT (YES THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS) FIND OUT WHAT YOU HAVE, RESEARCH ON INTERNET OR CALL YOUR LOCAL PLANT STORE YOU CAN TRUST.

Why cant i throw away a trash can?
For 3 weeks now i have put a trash can out to be taken by the garbage heros, and they wont frickin take it. I even put an old flower pot in it filled with dirt, and they emptied the dirt into the truck but left me that dang pot.
Why cant i throw away a trash can?
I don't know why this is so funny to me! It made me laugh to read it! I wouldn't know what to do either...you could try to write a note on it like "Garbage Hero's Take Me Too" lol
Good Luck
Reply:You need to put it into a bigger trash can? Just roll it down the street. Someone will take care of it.
Reply:LOL.. I had the same problem just a week ago! I finally put a note on it that said "This container is trash, too. Please dispose of the contents AND the container. Thank you!"
That worked.
Your question has now made me think of a related question I am just gonna have to post.......

Cleaning pidgeon dung off exterior balcony?
i have a condo on the 7th floor of 20 story building with a balcony . somehow pidgeons were nesting in a flower pot and now there is pidgeon dung on the concrete and on some of the metal railing . what to use and how to clean
Cleaning pidgeon dung off exterior balcony?
I would check with your condo association first, to see if they can come up with a solution that will not create any havoc amongst the other tenants. That may come under maintenance of the building...Cause water will fall 7 stories down....
Reply:I would use a pressure washer. It would be fast, efficient and keep you from having to scrub pigeon dung. All you would need is little electric one, about 1600 or 1700 PSI. I’m sure you could rent one but they are under $100, so if you have to clean it in the future it may be worth buying.
Tip: You can buy special detergent for them, but dawn dish detergent works just as well.

Need remove paint from a valuable porcelain vase by Wileman/Foley/Shelley that has been painted?
I bought jardiniere (outer vase for a flower pot) from a new eBay seller. It was actually pre-Wileman Foley (which later merged with Wileman and later became Shelley). The photograph was blurry %26amp; very poor quality. The seller did state and attempt to show that the upper 'orange' part had some paint worn off the paint; I figured it would be worn the way worn gilding is. The lower part was the famous "Blue Willows" transferware image. I thought the colors are good and the price is right. But I get it (at a very low price) and I see some home-craftsman just has painted in the upper white portion orange, seems to be some enamal type paint. And where the seller said was worn is where the paint had flaked off. I'm sure there are professional porcelain restorers out there, maybe I need one. But does long standing paint over the porcelain ruin it even if it can be removed? (especially orange over white). Is there a simple way to do it (like nail polish remover removes nail polish?)
Need remove paint from a valuable porcelain vase by Wileman/Foley/Shelley that has been painted?
I would ask a professional. Don't risk using any chemical product.
Reply:If the paint is latex, xylene will remove it. "zip-strip" or some other methylene chloride based remover will work with most paint or enamel. Lye (sodium hydroxide) in water also works, more slowly. Don't use a remover with acid, as it may damage the porcelain.
Reply:call an antique dealer they can give you names of people that can help you
Reply:I would google a restorer for fine china and porcelain. Once I had several names I would call them all and ask lots of questions. I would be more interested in what they can do than where they are. Then I would insure and ship the vase to them, if necessary. Sometimes they can tell you what to do or use, just make sure you follow their instructions. I had to do that with some Swarovski crystal ornaments that somebody tried to fix with the wrong adhesive.
Reply:soak it in M.E.K. ,swish it around a bit and rinse it off , wash in dish detergent ,rinse with clear water , should take off all the pant and not hurt the porcelain glaze
Reply:You can heat it with a heat gun or even a hair blower. Keep the heat moving around not get just one spot to hot. The paint, once hot enough, will peel right off.
Reply:what dd'sgrl said more people lose money try to " fix" things, seek help
Reply:"de-natured alcohol" (ask some profesional to double check first)

How to make parquet look as before?
I am renting an apartment, and I think I spoiled the parquet there. I put a pot with a flower right on the floor, and somehow the floor under the pot looks darker now: I think the water was coming through. Now there is a distinctive dark (wet?) circle on a very visible spot. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?
How to make parquet look as before?
You may be out of luck, water stains in wood are tough. Try a wood cleaner and scrub, scrub, scrub. It may at least lighten the stain. But don't scrub so hard that you remove the normal wood stain. It would look even worse...

My plants are dying please help!!?
I have flowers in a flower pot.
The leaves are turning yellow.
What should I do?
My plants are dying please help!!?
Usually when plant leaves start to yellow it is a sign of some sort of water deficiencies, you could be watering too much, too little.. or the soil could be having difficulty draining properly.....
Reply:Check to make sure they aren't part shade or full shade plants and they are in the sun. This will scorch them. If this is the case remove them from the sun immediately. Don't water them until the dirt shows it's drying up. Hope this works for you.
Reply:It depends on the plant, but more often than not yellow is due to water deficiency. This could be that you don't water them properly in the sense that when you water them, the water tries to hydrate the plant too much, and then a few minutes later, the flowers are dry and thirsty. It might be too late for these flowers, depending on how yellow they are, but what you should do is plant flowers in GOOD QUALITY (not the cheap stuff) potting soil or worm castings a.k.a. vermicast. Try to find worm castings, but if you can't find any, use the GOOD potting soil. Both of these are absolutely loaded with nutrients for your plants, and, more importantly, these soils time-release the water and nutrients to the plants. This ensures that your plants get what they need when they need it, rather than being over-watered one minute, and thirsty the next minute. You could try to find these soils at www.1800TOPSOIL.com or call 1-800-TOPSOIL to see if they have someone in your area. They're national landscapers and they're good. Good luck!
Reply:Throw them out, and start fresh. This time make sure to take good care of your plants. Feed them water each day, make sure the soil is rich, and make sure they are in a spot that has tons of sunlight.
Reply:it depends on what type of plants it is. if its rhododendron and it is going yellow that means it need acid soil you can buy some stuff to spray the plants with it and in few days it will turn green . what we did when our plant was going yellow we put little bit of vinegar in the soil and this year it has flowered.
Reply:I would recommend to find out whether or not are the kind of pot flowers that only bloom once. I know of certain daisy-like flower that once they've bloomed, they will die.
If they are not the "only one time" type, give it a try by trimming the plant, so that it can grow again nice and freshly, making sure it has enough water and enough sunlight (the proper amounts to the type of flower it is)

Clay to be used for handbuilding at home.?
I really have gotten into handbuilding, especially coiling, and I want to get clay for at home, but I do not have a kiln. What type of clay can I use that does not need to be fired, but is durable, and can be used as say, a flower pot. Where can I get this clay. Any info about clay for handbuilding at home would be awesome
Clay to be used for handbuilding at home.?
I've not used the non-bake clays before - just the fire types. But there should be some websites out there that sell the non-baking pottery clay, as used by the American Indians. Even then, I'd imagine that they sometimes put them in an oven to make the stuff a little more waterproof.
I haven't the secret that the old women of ancient cultures know about how to make durable pottery by just baking them in the sun. But perhaps there are workshops nearby that you can join for....$40 a month, just to use the electirc potters wheel and the kiln. We have that in here Honolulu.

Has anyone ever gotten over arachnophobia? How?
I keep telli ng myself im not crazy....but i think it could be a possibillity now...
Okay I live out in the country and there are spiders (HUGE ONES) everywhere, inside, outside.....
So..I thought to myself...what kills spiders? BIRDS!!
My nut job self went and bought 40 chickens and turkeys. They will be able to turn loose in about a week. (not soon enough!)
One tim when I was feeding them frickin tarantula ran up inside my pant leg and I froze...im first instinct was just to cut my dang leg off...so i took my pants off and ran around like a crazy woman...nearly piss pantsing myself...laugh all you want!!
But I'm so scared of spiders its affecting my everyday life. Yesterday I couldn't carry a flower pot that had been in the barn to the porch because I just knew there'd be a spider somewhere on it so I kicked it all the way to the porch and made my husband do a "spider check" Which he has to do to the bed..my shoes..cabinets..jackets or clothes I haven't worn in a while.
Has anyone ever gotten over arachnophobia? How?
hi, I have a friend who also had an experience with a tarantula as a child,to this day is petrified of spiders.people who have these type of phobeas know they are being irrational and go to great lengths to avoid, that has to be difficult living in the country.there are ways to help yourself-u have to confront the spider and change your thoughts while doing so.start by looking at the spider from a distance, tell yourself u are safe,it will not hurt u.little by little get closer, continue reassuring yourself(perhaps a friend could also be there to help).the process could be slow, dont rush yourself, there has been sucess with this type of treatment-cognitive therapy.good luck ashley.

I am working on hand embroidery project and need expert answer. whichis the very best filler stitch?
My project is a pewter pot with flowers. I am pasting picture for you . I want to fill in the pot with dmc cotton floss.Which is the very best choice of stitch to fill.oops, sorry can't seem to paste to screen. how can I send this along? should I email to yahoo answers?
I am working on hand embroidery project and need expert answer. whichis the very best filler stitch?
When filling in an area, it depends on the "look" I want (smooth, pebbled, etc.), but for something like a pewter pot, I'd go with a satin stitch or a "long and short" stitch for a smooth look. http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art5...
Reply:You can fill it with any stitch you think looks nice. Satin stitch looks nice, but is time consuming and if you are not experienced, is difficult to make the edges look really good. I would sprinkle small cross stitches randomly, or seed stitches. Both of these look really nice and it's not necesaary to fill in completely or make perfect crosses.
Reply:Depending on your design you can use satin stitch,or
seed stitch, when I am doing animals like poodles or sheep I like to use bullion stitch as it gives the impression of curley
fur. this can also be used to create ringlets for crinoline ladies. hope this helps, have fun whatever you decide.

Reply:please remember that i had WAY too much time on my hands back in the way when i used to embroider.
i would do the majority of my outlines with a chain stich then fill with a simple stem stitch. i started on the outer edges and work in a circle until i filled all the way to the middle. it takes a long time but the end result is beautiful and tends not to cause puckering.
i hope that's a clear explanation.
Reply:i would use satin stitch or better still, cross stich. yes, i would go with cross stitch.

My flower is drooping. Why?
I bought a potted gerbera daisy several weeks ago. Yesterday I noticed that the flower stems are bending and looking kind of weak. They used to be straight and solid looking. The oldest flowers are drooping the worst. The one that opened last week seems to be doing fine. The pot is near a west facing window, it gets lots of afternoon sun. The soil is moist to the touch and the pot drains well. There's no sign of bugs. My apartment temp ranges from low 60's at night to 70ish during the day.
Does anyone know what's wrong with my plant?
My flower is drooping. Why?
I think that it is just the older flowers dying off. Gerbera
produces new blooms continuously during its flowering period.
The only other thing it might be is that it is planted too deep so that the crown is below the surface. This causes rot. As your plant is still blooming well I doubt this is the cause. Have a look at these sites for more help.
Reply:Gravity strikes again!!!
Reply:do you have proper drainage? You may hsve root rot.

If I replant my Hyacinth flowers in a larger pot, will the grow again next year? Or will I have to buy more??
My Husband bought me beautiful Hyacinths flower for mother's day. If I replant them in a larger pot, will they come up again next year?
If I replant my Hyacinth flowers in a larger pot, will the grow again next year? Or will I have to buy more??
it's best to just put em in the ground so they get the cold spell of winter! bury em about four or so inches down and if they still have some green on em, they should be fine, they spread too, which is a plus! cut the green off once it turns brown this summer!
Reply:Yes but outdoors would be better. they must go through a cold spell in order to come back in the spring. The growers do it w/refrigaration.....................

Is it allowed to take a potted plant internationally? Specifically, from EU to USA.?
I've a potted flower that was a special gift from my husband. When we move from the EU to the USA next month, I'd like to take it with me but cannot find any information online if this is permissible.
Is it allowed to take a potted plant internationally? Specifically, from EU to USA.?
not only no but heck no, that's one of the first questions they as at immigration. do you have any plants, fruits or veggies that you have brought from another country. sorry but the special plant isn't going to make it, find a nice spot and plant it there for everyone to enjoy or find a nice home for it with friends there and maybe they can send you pictures of it once in a while.
Reply:NO!

Any potted outdoor plants that require NO care?
We are about to open the new playground in our community, and would like to put some potted plants (preferably flowering) in the picnic table area. Are there any that require no care (since there won't be anyone to water them regularly, so they will just depend on the weather). We are in Zone 6. They can be small (for tabletop) or large (for a larger pot next to the tables). Thanks for your help.
Any potted outdoor plants that require NO care?
Portulaca is the best for flowering but needs some sun. Other than that succulents work great in a no-care garden or pots.
Reply:The only flowers or plants that will require no care will be artificial. All others will require some type of care.
Reply:You could try rhodo's but if you are keeping them in pots on the picnic table or beside them and no one is watching them then i would use artifical as you would be very trusting to spend a lot of money on real ones that someone could easily come by and steal them.
Reply:The only plants that require NO CARE are plastic ones. Unfortunately, someone will have to be available for watering and some maintenance.

Does anyone know the name of cross stitch pattern inside of porch with chair and table. looks like a foray sc?
Has a lot of gray brick and I think the flowers in pot are red. Looks like it is a shaded entrance hall or porch interior.
Does anyone know the name of cross stitch pattern inside of porch with chair and table. looks like a foray sc?
You could try going to Ebay and looking under cross stitch patterns to see if you can find it. I just bought two off there that I couldn't remember the name of but knew what it looked like so once I found a similar one that I knew was by this artist I searched under her name and then was able to find what I wanted. Hope this helps.

What flowers are available for a fall wedding?
I have been preparing for a summer wedding all year but now I will not be able to have my wedding until late October, early November 2007 because I can't get my fiance here until then because of visa technicalities. I was wondering what kinds of plants and flowers are available for that time of year? I know florists can get you just about anything but I am working with a smaller budget and was thinking about buying potted plants and flowers from a nursery to add greenery and color. The wedding will be outside so I need some plants to liven up our garden that will be mostly dormant by that time. This has been very last minute news and I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions?
What flowers are available for a fall wedding?
If you're in North America, the California Cut Flower Commission lists product availability for the major fresh cut flowers. I'd use that as a guide, then contact your local florist for the arrangements. Most florists can work with any budget and they would likely be cheaper than buying potted plants out of season. Reply:Sometimes you can rent plants. Contact an interior plant design and maintenance business to see if they could supply plants for the wedding. That way you wouldn't have to worry about delivery and pick up.
Something caught my eye...."dormant"...how dormant? My horror would be getting nursery plants only to have them killed by late season cold weather. Plus you have more than enough to worry about with the other wedding plans, don' t take this one on as well.
Go to a florist and talk with them. Could be two nice arrangements ......maybe on pedestals flanking the bride and groom will be sufficient. Be careful with flower selection.....roses are more expensive than carnations and mums. Forget lilies. You can get an idea on flower prices on various web sites for wholesale flowers.
Ribbons and bows elsewhere and maybe something where people enter the garden.......?
Shop around for florists, they vary in their creativity.
Reply:Chrysanthemum. Beautiful and very showy. they came in all colors but the fall colored ones are most beautiful and make wonderful arrangements
Reply:This challenge might actually give you an opportunity to liven up your landscape permanently, or to have your decor do double duty - you could give your potted plants as wedding favors to your guests!
Don't know your location, but some great choices in the Upper Midwest may include Autumn Joy Sedum, Burning Bush, Black-Eyed Susan, Purple Coneflower. Some of these may actually be starting to fade by that late date, but check with a local garden center for more options. Talk to an independent, not a big box, because they'll have more knowledgeable staff.
Once you figure out what to use, reserve plants with a deposit, so you don't have to spend several weeks caring for them before the big day.
Good luck!

Magnolia branches w/leaves are SO decorative on arches and on tables as centerpieces. Shine the leaves with baby oil.
Ivy is lovely too. You can work that around anything. Ferns are nice (you can rent those from most nurseries)...and ofcourse roses. Holly branches with the red berries, maybe?
You dont always have to decorate with flowers. You can use fruit in baskets or bowls ....or potpouri...ribbons, bows.... borrow things like statues or pictures on an easel....use your imagination.
I am sure that you and your girlfriends will come up with some awesome ideas....and I am sure that your wedding will be lovely no matter what! Best wishes!
Reply:Where do you live? Where I live there is snow on the ground by late October and we would be decorating with pumpkins, corn stalks, straw bales, dogwood branches and pine branches.
Usually the only potted plants in late autumn are mums, asters, ornamental kale. You may have to buy them earlier though, not likely to be many left in garden stores by late October.
Branches, dried flowers (teasel, cattails, milkweed and other weeds), dried grasses, rose hips, evergreen branches in terra cotta pots or other containers can be interesting and dried "weeds" from natural areas or from your uncut perennials are free. You can spray paint some of the branches and add glitter for colour.
Reply:Flowering Kale or Cabbage is showy and can stand frost. Fall mums are great and so are gourds and pumpkins.
Reply:Besides the usual mums, cone flowers, and sedum, consider inexpensive ornamental grasses. Grasses are a great way to use large amounts of space (like for outdoor events), they coordinate with other styles of flowers beautifully, and can be gotten at any big store (Home Depot, Lowe's), nursery center, or most florist shops. Some of my favorites are Maiden hair grasses, Purple fountain grass, and Zebra grass. Also, don't forget Asparagus ferns, which are light and airy looking, inexpensive, can be found everywhere, and go with everything.
Good luck and God bless!

Congratulations and good luck!

What's your favorite flower?
I'm looking around to find some kind of flower/plant to grow. I live in south Texas, so I need something that can handle the heat and humidity down here. I can keep it inside or out, in a hanging pot, or left on the porch, in the sun or in the shade. I'm open to anything really. So, what are your favorites????
What's your favorite flower?
My FAVORITE are Cymbidium Orchids... not easy to raise, but the flowers I have come from bulbs of my Mother's that date back to the 1950's.
My next would be good-old roses.
Next would be California Poppies, and then marigolds (for benificial bugs around my garden.).
Reply:My favorite flowers it he Shasta Daisy (white with yellow centers). I live in Massachusetts and they grow wild up here in the summer so I'm sure they would grow fine in Texas.
Reply:I love the smell of Sweet Peas. Chinese lanterns are pretty in the Fall and you can take them inside and put them dry in a vase....very decorative over the winter. I will admit that I don't know if these are good for your location or not.
gere
Reply:Black-eyed Susans are very pretty and hardy.
Reply:If you want something that is really showy and beautiful, plant dahlias. The large kind.
Reply:My favorite flower is sea thrift. It looks like grass. The flowers are little round hot pink flowers on a slender stem. They remind me of Dr. Seuss flowers. I'm not sure how it would work in Texas.
For heat try sedums and cactus. There are loads of varieties.
The US National Arboretum has a hardiness zone map which breaks up the United States into growing zones. If you have a gardening catalog, they usually include that map. Each plant would list the growing zones in which it can thrive. You'll also find growing zone numbers listed on plants in your local nursery.
I used to live in Wisconsin. My sister lives in Florida. Daffodils thrived by me and withered by her. Occasionally, I brought her a weak houseplant. My azalea became a happy and healthy shrub in her yard. So did my amaryllis. Those spread and put up a stunning display every year.
Good luck.
Reply:Black roses and purple orchids
Reply:Red roses are the best!
Reply:most people are saying really common flowers. doesn't anyone have better suggestions?????? ok, here's my GREAT suggestion...I love japanese water lillies, but they wont grow there! ha! all of you people need to say something like that! a rare flower!
Reply:sunflowers grow almost anywhere
Reply:the best plant u can grow is asperagous as u can plant it anywhere %26amp; everywhere .it also have pretty ,small flowers in it.

My fish are developing Saltwater ich, how do I cure this?
My 55 gal tank has:a serpent star (legs are falling off), yellow tang (getting infected), powder brown tank (already infected), 2 damsels (only 1 infected), 2 clowns (ok for now), 2 shrimp, 4 red claws snails, 3 horseshoe crabs, plus 3 corals (flower pot, hammer, metallic frog??)
My fish are developing Saltwater ich, how do I cure this?
You can treat this, but I'm afraid you have a lot more problems than just ich in your tank. Ich won't make your serpent star lose its legs. You have about twice the number of fish that your tank should accommodate, and a few too many species that are going to show territorial aggression (you should only have one tang, and either the clowns or the damsels). The horseshoe crabs will all outgrow your tank (or worse, die while buried in the substrate and release a lot of ammonia, possibly killing the rest of your livestock).
Back to your immediate problem of ich - any medication you can use can also kill your inverts, so you'll need a separate tank capable of holding ALL of your fish, regardless of whether they're currently infected or not. Ich is a parasite with multiple stages in its life cycle, and only one of these occurs ON the fish - the rest are in the water. It's only a matter of time before the rest become infected. Treatment can be with medication or using hyposalinty (lower the amount of salt in the water to 1.015 SLOWLY.
There's another option of doing freshwater dips, and even though this will affect the parasites on your fish, the ones still in the water or substrate in your tank will still be present and can reinfect the fish if you put them back.
As long as there are no fish in the tank for the parasites to infect, they'll die out on their own, but this will take 6-8 weeks to be reasonable sure it's died off.
Reply:Ich is a very common disease that almost fish keeper will sadly run into at some point. Saying that, aquarium stores are very prepared for it. They should have tons of different medications for ich, just ask them. I know I've seen a lot.
Since most of your tank is infected, I would medicate your whole tank.
Reply:Unfortunatley, salt water ich is a little tougher to get rid of, especially in a reef tank, or tank with invertebrates and corals.
Mosr meds you use will kill your shrimp, snails, corals and crabs.
A good method to try might be to give the infected shrimp a dip. You can do a medicated dip, or a freshwater dip. Sometimes the cure can be a tough as the disease, so i'd research the best method of dipping them before I got started. Some med dips will tell you 1 should do it, in that case, be sure to dip all the sick fish the same day. Most however, will tell you to do it more than once, as the parasite can still be in the tank, or laying eggs in the gravel. Killing the ones on the fish don't prevent the ones in the tank from grabbing on later.
At this stage, with that many infected fish, it's probably to late to pull the sick and put them in a sick tank. Something to think about for the future.
I would also try to figure out how you got it. New fish? Big temperature change? Some other stressful situation? Water quality or maintenance problem?
Reply:Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Aquarian Liquid Super Ick Cure 4 0z $2.99
Can be used in saltwater tanks- cures within 24 hrs- and prevents secondary infections
I'm sure you can find it locally though- or any type of equal product

What type of flower is this (pic..)?
do you think it's to small for it's pot?

What type of flower is this (pic..)?
It is definitely a Tulip - I would put it in larger pot - that is assuming that it is not sterile and can keep growing - most store bought plants (flowers) are just that - they bloom , the flowers go away and that's the end - But on the off chance that your plant is one tha can re-flower definitely get a larger pot - if you are in an area that stays warm most of the year then make a place outside - if it can be transplanted it should have come with instructions on how to do that.
Reply:Once the flower of the tulip dies, do not cut the stem or leaves. Put them in the sunlight, still planted.
After the leaves brown you will be able to easily pull them off and keep the bulb for another bloom.
You can either plant it in the fall outdoors for a spring bloom, or, if you want it indoor again you can "force" the bulb. See link below.
Reply:That is a tulip! You can force the bulbs and grow them in rocks and water but they really do best if they are in soil - after the blooming is done - let the leaves continue on until they yellow so they continue to provide nutrition to the bulb. Then pull the bulbs out of the ground and put in a brown bag in a dry space.Put the bag of bulbs in the freezer for 3 months and pull out and replant to force the growth if you don't get a freeze in your area.
Reply:it's a 2-color or bicolor tulip. yeah the tulip is a little too big for the pot. i'd transplant it. and it will work in water
Reply:That is a double petal tulip, which some call the rose tulip. It needs to be planted outside in the ground soon or into a 8" pot.
Reply:Tulips in a pot.
Reply:It's a bicolor tulip. And I think it's a little large for its pot. I don't think it will work in just water.
Reply:That is a tulip, bulbs potted up and forced to bloom for spring. The pot size is not important. Let them finish blooming, and then I would take them, pot and all, and stick them in the ground for the leaves to finish growing. Be sure to keep them watered if it doesn't rain. When the leaves are done growing and are turning yellow, you can cut them off and plant the bulbs in the ground, cover them about with soil about 8 ", and they may bloom again next spring for you.
Reply:It is a tulip. And no, it needs dirt and soil and nutrients and it alson needs to go dormant each winter to bloom again in the spring.

I have a lemon tree thats four years old, its in a large pot but never flowers or fruits. any ideas?
how old does a lemon tree have to be before it flowers and fruits.
I have a lemon tree thats four years old, its in a large pot but never flowers or fruits. any ideas?
I would try those fruit tree stakes, that help supply nutrients to the plant and soil.
They can be found at most garden stores...
Reply:First the plants should be kept in a cold greenhouse or consevotory over the winter, plus a lot of these trees need another to help cross polinate to produce fruit.
Reply:It is my understanding, that trees may be divided into sexes. You may need to find out, what your tree is considered and buy another of the opposite sex. They need to be cross pollinated.Do you have a lot of bee's in your yard. You may need to attract bee's to your yard and tree. Do you keep your tree inside? You may need to move it outside. You must remember that plants need to be cross pollinated to produce other plants.

Reply:I have two lemon trees my self. I use the special compost that you can buy for them (approx. £3 a bag) and have just brought mine in for the winter. It is a pot of flowers
I am trying to paint a pot, how do I make it appear round?
curve the base and the top and pick the spot where the light would shine on it and make that a little lighter color... look at these...

Reply:Add varying shades of gray to darken the edges as they fade away from view and lighten the part that is supposed to appear closest to you.
You could also curve the bottom edge and the top edge of the pot to make them appear to be rounding off.
I recommend finding a pot and just sit back staring at it for a little while noticing the details (such as the lighter/darker areas and the way the bottom/top edges curve out of sight).
Reply:Sorry to burst your bubble but isnt a flower pot already round. If itsnt then what pot are you smoking

Can I put ant powder in my outside plant pots (which have lovelly flowers growing in them) to get rid of the ants without harming the plants? they are driving me CRAZY!!! would they harm the plants if I just left them?,
Ants in plant pots?
If you know a smoker, have them save you cigarette butts in a can, soak them in water, and water your plants with it. Nicotine is one of the oldest insecticides, it will kill bugs and not harm plants. Haven't tried it on ants, but it worked for little fruit flies in my houseplants.
Reply:Ants are pests always in any type of garden. They spread disease indirectly by herding aphids around. Aphids suck the plant sap out of seedlings and cause black molds to appear on older, soft plants. If you'd like to get rid of them, I'd suggest you visit this website for environmentally friendly alternatives to ridding your pest problem: http://www.thefrugallife.com/ants.html Good luck! :-)
Reply:had the same problem today.
i repotted the plants after shakeing the ants off well away from my garden.
Reply:Find some kind of bug that eats ants or get an ant eater

What is a way to get donated plants and supplies to start gardens at my middle school?
I work for Jackson Public Schools in Jackson, MS and am planning to celebrate Earth Day on April 22 by planting flowers and need potting soil, flowers, etc. I cannot afford all of this on my own. Any suggestions?
What is a way to get donated plants and supplies to start gardens at my middle school?
You might try going yourself or perhaps calling local stores such as Home Depot, Lowe's, KMart, WalMart, etc., and explaining your situation and ask for donations. I once volunteered at Habitat For Humanity and they used to go to stores including food stores for donations for events. I would imagine they would be happy to to the same for you. It's not like you're asking for yourself. Perhaps you could ask the local newspaper to cover the planting and ask them to mention the stores who have donated and tell the local stores that you are trying to get press coverage too. It might help you get donations. However try to just ask for the donations FIRST so that you DO NOT give the impression you can deliver press coverage if you cannot. Hope this helps.
Reply:Call around to your local nurseries. If they donate the things to your school, they can get a tax deduction for it, plus it's free advertising for them.
Reply:Ask your local nursery for a donation.
Reply:I would contact ANY local nursery and ask if they have anything that could be donated. They often have greenhouses filled with 'last years' stock they don't know what to do with....you can offer to give them a certificate (make one) to hang in their shop with a THANK YOU from all the kids in the class (good customer relations for them!).
Reply:I just picked up 18 black cherry seedlings from the university's plant biotech building for my son's upcoming birthday (he was born on Earth Day). I'm going to give them away at his party instead of party favor bags. She didn't charge me anything for them. You might try contacting the agriculture dept. of your local community colleges or university and see if they can accomodate you. Good luck and happy Earth Day. :)
Reply:You're off to a very late start on this! Have a fund raiser
Reply:Ask if the donations can be for a cause like awareness of a greener planet.
Reply:I would go around to a few nurseries in the area and tell them about your project with the hope that they'd be willing to donate something. I would imagine they will donate something at each one, you can also offer to do some free advertising around your event in return for some plants. If they can't give for free, ask for a discount.
Reply:Go to the judges, clerks and lawyers in family court, in Criminal Court. They deal with the youngsters who did not have gardens to play in and learn from. The judges will get out their checkbooks to help.
Reply:Simple go talk with the principal about sending home a note with the students about what you are planning and see if parents will donate some things to help out.

Have had 2 nagami kumquats for 3 yrs in pots, good sun, but have never flowered/bore fruit.any suggestions why
Winter temp= -5 to 15, summer temp=8 to 28. Bought the trees from garde centre. Have never had diseases/infestations. Have never flowered our had fruit.
Have had 2 nagami kumquats for 3 yrs in pots, good sun, but have never flowered/bore fruit.any suggestions why
Fortunella margarita ( like all Citrus-plants ), if propagated from seeds without grafting needs 8-10, sometimes up to 15 years to flower and fruit.
It prefers loose soil with pH 6,1 to 6,5, needs soft water ( rain water ), hates over-watering or to stand in water, needs sun in summer and winter ( not less than 700 Lux ), but not more than about 4 to 8 degrees Celsius in winter.
It doesn`t tolerate draft.
Might be the best, to ask the people in that garden centre, how to graft them and if there is a special fertilizer available, which brings them to flower.
Or to have patience some years longer.
Hope, you understand my bad English and wish you good luck!

My standard rose , growing in a large pot,has not flowered at all this year ?
It has produced a long leaved stem halfway up the trunk and a sucker has appeared at the base, The top has not produced any leaves at all ! Any ideas on what to do next please?
My standard rose , growing in a large pot,has not flowered at all this year ?
To much nitrogen perhaps in your soil. I had the same problem with my Brown Eye Susan's. Buy rose food or general flower fertilizer and give it twice what it says on the box. The liquid kind will produce results quicker. The solid stuff will last longer. Roses are fussy. You also may have to buy some bug killer that is OK to spray on plants.
Water her every day for a while and she will reward you.
Reply:you might want to transfer it to a little larger pot
Reply:your 'tree rose' has had the top, above the graft, die.... most likely from the weird early spring weather, and especially if it was not protected over winter.... tree roses need to be wrapped against cold and freezing or stored for winter.... everything on that rose from the top down is root stock.. the good stuff is on top after the graft, a kinda lumpy area....anything below it is suckers and should be removed at once when you see them.... but if there's no leaves on the top, it's done for... sorry..........
Reply:have u had it for a while...if u hvnt it cud take quite a long time before it starts flowering...

What is the best way to say sorry to your g/f? Flowers? a pot noodle? maybe some new shampoo?
its nice to know romance isn't dead
What is the best way to say sorry to your g/f? Flowers? a pot noodle? maybe some new shampoo?
Make sure you are honest with her and tell her you are truly sorry. Woman don't want you to buy their happiness...well at least I am not that way. Material items don't solve anything. Good, real conversation and strong words, do however. Buying something is only temporary happiness and problems not solved then. If you were going to buy something, maybe just a nice card letting her know how you feel about her and how much she means to you. Maybe do something sweet, but simple, like a home cooked dinner or write her cute little notes and put them randomly around her things in her house to find, that should put a smile on her face.
Reply:There really isny any need to spend money unless you want to, a simple little note left uner a pillow or put in her bag with all the right things said on it will mean more than a bunch of flowers believe me, make sure the apology is from the heart and honest, good luck
Reply:Your a man, why do YOU have to appologise? Surely she should be sorry to have left the kitchen to catch you doing something wrong?
(that was a joke for all you easily offended people)
Mostly though, it involves spending money
Reply:Here's an idea: apologise. A lot. Wash her car. Pick your dirty clothes up off the floor, wash some dishes, change the sheets on the bed, scrub the toilet, etc. If you did that for me, I would forgive you.
Reply:DO NOT give her a new shampoo because this will lead you to say sorry again. Giving a new shampoo is like giving a new tampons! It will make her mad. The flowers are the best and may be followed by a romantic dinner.
Reply:New shampoo!!!!.........NO WAY
First have a heart to heart talk with her and say it. You could give her flowers or take her to dinner. That would soften her up a bit. Good Luck!
Reply:all your suggestions are rubbish. i am reliably informed that something more personal such as a picnic or or picture/book/mix cd tailored to her would be better
Reply:flowers and a nice box of chocolates and an apology should work.
Reply:Only the magical opening of the wallet does anything for a woman.
Prepare to spend BIIIG money.
Reply:Maybe you should get her a cook book and mop!!!
My experience is that Flowers work the best, do your best to get her favorite type and color.
Reply:flowers are the best. with am sorry message inside it
this will instantly put a smile to her face and forgive you.
i love flowers
Reply:Maybe if it was shampoo AND conditioner... throw in some fancy hairspray, and you're golden!!!
Reply:you dnt know anything god rite get her some flowers and choclate that it the rest will come form you from the hear not the head
Reply:A pot plant, its different and aftershe has thrown it at me, she normally laughs
Reply:A deep fat fryer and a bag of potatoes, so she can cook you some chips.
Reply:I have a feeling that if you gave her some new shampoo, you'd have some more sorry to say!
Reply:How about those magic words "I'm sorry, please forgive me". Nothing you buy will take their place.
Reply:A pot noodle every time, the hot one
Reply:chocolate always workes
Reply:try an iron, and a new pan set. she will love you.
Reply:just come clean!!
say the truth %26amp; that ur sorry %26amp; tat u do really mean it!!!
