I have one of those big clay pots with flowers in it. I put drainage rocks in the bottom and then the rocks on top of it. Underneath it I have one of those clay saucers. I thought the two of them together would make it not leak through. However, my neat freak of a neighbor below me says that it is leaking on to his porch. How can I get it to stop so he will leave me alone?
How do I make it stop leaking?
You may have too many rocks in the pot and the water simply drips through the soil and into the rocks. My experience tells me that only a few rocks are needed at the bottom around the hole, then a good mix of soil for the rest.
Reply:water less volume but more often. and if the water is not absorbed by the soil and the plant it will end up in the saucer so just water it a little less but more often
Reply:You can buy some type of putty from a store like "sears or home depot", and use it to seal the leaking spot.
Reply:If it is one of those high sided saucers then just fill up the saucer and add a little dab of miracle grow once or twice a month and you won't have to water it as often.
Reply:Put your plant on a deeper leakproof tray so if the water does leak out its caught in something. Try a cookie sheet or dish pan till you can get something better.
Reply:dont water it so much
Reply:put the pot somewhere else!!!
Reply:Either you are watering it too much or the soil is not retaining the water.
There is a product you can mix with potting soil that absorbs the water when you water the plant and releases it slowly. I don't remember the name of the stuff but any good nursery should carry something similar.
Or get a deeper saucer and like the previous responder said, "don't water so much".
