I don't have space to put them on high shelves so I'm wondering if there is some type of plant or some device I can use to keep the kitties away from my flowers. Are there certain flowers they won't try and chew on? Anyone have any luck with anything they've tried (besides putting them on high shelves) ?
Any ideas to keep my cats from eating indoor potted flowers?
well cats eat plants in order to digest their food better. It kick starts their stomach to stop indigestion. What i did with my cat was give it some leaves next to her food. Cut it up and it can work miracles. In addition, cats learn to stop doing something when u yell loudly when they do something. For example, u can yell NO! when your kitty is about to eat up your flower and it will stop. Also, catnip is an amazing distraction. You can put it places where you want it to go. I put it in my cat's scratchin post and it stopped scratching my furniture too.
Reply:I think that you should propbly tried to get some kitty cat grass. Its something that would grow into plant that is safe for a cat and the cat will love the taste of it.
Reply:get the kitty cat nip.they will love it so much they wont care about your plants.and the best thing is cat nip can be grown so grow it in your house and they will LOVE IT
Reply:You have been offered a lot of useful suggestions, but if they don't seem to work for you, you might try sprinkling Cayenne pepper on the leaves. I have had success with that after the bitter apple didn't work. I also found toothpaste keeps my cats out of the Christmas tree. (They hate the smell and the taste and were horrified to get it on their paws when they climbed the tree. I put it on the inside bottom branches.)
Reply:Cats hate the smell of viniger. Put viniger around the plants container and that will keep the cats away. Don't put it in or on the plants though I am not sure how that will affect them
Reply:hi sorry im not answering ur question but u answered one of mine and i have more questions for u ....didnt knwo how to reach u so just came here..i hope u dont mind.......u said that long term use of tretinoin will cause too much deep exfoliation and actually damage skin..ive been using it for like 6 years.is taht bad........now actually it doesnt even seem to be working.....before it worked beautifully but i dunno
Reply:I would get some training cat spray works good. Spray on plant every week and cat will not touch
Reply:I got a planter pole for mine. It has a spring in it so you can put it up without making any marks on the ceiling or floor. The hooks adjust to anywhere you want. There are also circular hangers you can use on the pole. Mine came with 3 hooks and one circular hanger. You can get woven plant hangers at most places that sell plants, or you can have fun making some macrame hangers yourself. This worked great for me. There are also electronic "mats" that you can put around the plants that give a small shock to the cat when he steps on it. However, these are very expensive. Some plants are more attractive to cats, too. Mine especially liked palms, but he would taste all of them, even cactus. Mine didn't particularly like plants with fuzzy leaves. When I was first married my husband gave me a beautiful azalea plant. The first day his cat ate all the flowers off. Just too tempting. Some plants, such as diefenbachia can be poisonous to cats, too. This will make their mouth swell up. Do an online search to find out which plants are poisonous to your cat, so you can get rid of the plant.
Reply:My daughter has a cat and this is what I do when I don't want him doing things he shouldn't - I have a small bottle of cold water and spray it on him when he is doing something he shouldn't. He gets away from what he is doing when I spray him. It doesn't hurt him. I would go to a pet store or animal shelter and ask them what to do.
Reply:Like two earlier comments, one, plant cat nip for them. Cats love that stuff and it's really easy to grow and they shouldn't bother the other plants or spray bitter apple on them...trust me it works.
Reply:I bought a couple of hanging plants and put 2 hooks in the ceiling. They can't reach them and the only thing you have to worry about is picking up the dry leaves or petals that fall from the plant.
Reply:try growing grass in a little pot ..it worked for my cats.
Reply:find LIQUID LAXATIVES HE HE
Reply:I sprayed Bitter Apple on my plants and it worked. Now my cats don't go near my plants.Good luck;^)
Reply:Try this, it works! Spritz the plant with water and shake regular table pepper on the leaves. You might want to do it over a sink. Coat the leaves well and let the pepper dry on the leaves. May take a couple of times but this worked for me. Does not hurt your cat.
Reply:try getting some chicken wire to go around the plants it will keep the cats off the plants %26amp; it won't harm the plant
