and does anyone know how far apart to plant both Bleeding Heart Dicentra as well as Alleghany Foam Flower from each other?
Thanks for your answers!
How does planting perennials , such as Dicentra, from "bare root" compare to planting them from small pots?
If you plant these as potted plants...you can plant them almost anytime. When you plant these as "bare roots"... it's best to plant them late autumn or early spring. ...which doesn't give you as much time to plant. Also, bare root plants need to be planted as soon as possible upon arrival so they won't dry out.
To find out how far to space your plants, I would find out how wide each plant would grow, %26amp; use that as a guide for spacing them.
Dicentra formosa Bleeding hearts can grow 2 ft wide:

Dicentra spectabilis grows 1.5 to 2.5 feet wide

Allegheny Foam flower (Tiarella cordifolia) spreads rapidly, but accommodates other plants by going around them.

Tiarella cordifolia var. collina (wherryi) Wherry's Foamflower spreads 12-18 Inches, so that's what I would use to determine how to space these plants. This site recommends spring division.

Good Luck! Hope this helps.
Reply:They would look great planted intermittently. They're pretty much the same height. The Foam flower grows 6-12" King of Hearts grows 8-10"
