What are the best plants/flowers to..?
For a sunny area and on your deck you'll need something that is maintenance free, extremely showy, and can take a beating. If you want something in hanging pots to drape over a deck railing or even in a hanging pot I strongly suggest the Wave variety of petunia. Purple puts on the the best show but they do come in other colors. Those things are obscene with color, require no dead heading, and with just a little Miracle Grow will last until frost. Heck, I've even frozen them until they looked dead last April and they snapped right back. Do a companion planting on the ground as well with some Morning Glory to climb a trellis, Moonbeam Coreopsis is a perrinial that will do very well with delicate yellow flowers, but for the best show try some Rudbeckia.(Blackeyed Susans) There is a Prarie Sunset variety that has blossoms the size of dinner plates and they are tough. Just plant an odd numbered cluster of them for best results. And remember, when you water your flower garden you only have to water the base of the plant where the roots are, not the flowers themselves.
Enjoy.
Reply:I've had good luck with impatiens around my deck at home, and tho they say that they are annuals mine reseed and come back every year. the color selection is very good too. for more plants that are good for what you want to do talk to someone at your local garden center or lowes and home depot are good resources
Reply:for some sunny plants that are perennials, I'd go for some day lillies or some sedum varieties
if you want annuals, pansies, begonias,....the list goes on and on..just check the tag in the plant
as for hanging plants, anything that hangs over the edge, I love sweet potatoes vines and million bells petunias
good luck and happy planting
