Reply:(Sensible) seems to have a good, cheap and effective answer. Pepper in about any form will back up most critters. Come to think of it, my daughter just planted six different herb plants in planters on the front deck for a school project and I'm gonna go out there right now and put a shot or two of cayenne in each of them. Thanks for reminding me!
Reply:I use cayanne pepper and chili powder (cheap stuff from the Dollar store). You can also place pine cones in the planter. I have also used plastic forks stuck in the dirt with the tines upwards.
Reply:My mom read some where that if you use soap (the bar soap) when it gets down to that small bit - and you cannot use it, and you don't throw it away - you can save them up for the following reasons:

To keep bugs away

'Air refreshener' for a room (if you have a handful of them)

Put in or near plants - to keep animals out.





Human pee is a last resort...

Reply:A ring of Cyanne (SP?) pepper around the outside of the flowers. Critters hate it.
