Hardy plants for non-green thumb in mid west Michigan? Ones that come back every year?

What kind of flowers are good for someone who kills pretty much every flower she touches..? I am looking for something I can plant once and then not have to keep replanting each year.. if you see my prior question, I am thinking of doing potted flowers in my landscaping/garden areas and am not sure what I can put in these pots...

Very few perennials will tolerate being confined to pots. Two I can think of that will tolerate it are geraniums and dahlias, but you will have to put them in rather large pots and bring them inside at the end of each season. They will go dormant once inside - don't water them over winter, but give them a good solid dose first thing in the spring when you take them outside. These plants are perennial to zone 6 usually, so this practice will simulate the milder weather of that zone. Both of these plants like full sun, and will need to be watered fairly often - they like evenly moist soil.
Reply:Daylilies are the way to go. These are the toughest plants I know. Plant these you simply can't go wrong. They are heat and drought tolerant. The best part they come back every year!!
Reply:Flowers that come back every year are called "perennials."

Find your plant hardiness zone on the map at the first link. You're probably Zone 5.

See the remaining links for suggestions.
Reply:Try Dianthus-Have had good luck with them and just cover with plastic and they return every year. Also, Spanish moss is hardy and returns.
