I live on a condo and have lanted flowers in pots on my patio. I try to water them everday but forget somtimes. WE are goint thru a drought in Tennessee and what can I do so that my new flower that I just bought and planted wont turn to crispers?
My plants keep burning up and they look crispy. Why?
Your plants will not survive the heat, or sun, if they are not heat tolerant or drought resistant. Unless you keep your plants hydrated, and give proper sun exposure as to specific plant needs, they will continue to burn up. Be more selective when purchasing plants, and make sure the conditions you provide, are the correct needs for that specific plant. Create some shade during the day, by setting up a type of canopy. Use your imagination, an old umbrella, or rig up some type of cover. If you have a little table, put them under that, or if you have some bigger plants, use them to create shade. There are containers on the market that have water reservoirs already built in, and the plants draw water as needed. Make sure your pots are big enough, and you are using soil that holds in moisture. Again, try to buy plants that are more suitable to your climate. Good Luck and enjoy!
Reply:You don't mention what type of plants they are. Some plants are only supposed to be planted in partial sun or shade. You may have to uproot and replant.
Reply:Are you using tap water? Maybe its something in that. Why not try getting some miracle grow and putting it into a gallon of spring water, then give it a shot?
Reply:A couple of things to consider - What plant is it and what type of location is it in? For example, shade loving plants would not tolerate the full afternoon sun. So, if you face full sun from noon to 3pm, pick plants for that environment.
Reply:everything is good in moderation! Too much direct hot sun for plants isn't always a good thing. The sun dries up the dirt really quick and then the plants suffer. If you can't water them everyday try to get some shade over them so they aren't hit by direct sunlight all day.
